Channels like MinutePhysics

For sometime now, I have been wanting to write this post about science channels on YouTube. Online science videos, especially on YouTube, have come a long way in the last eighteen months and have become wonderful sources for obtaining information about science. Most of these videos are under ten minutes long and it gives an opportunity for the viewers to learn about almost any topic in science in a really short amount of time. MinutePhysics is one of the most famous science channels on YouTube and in this post I will be mentioning some of the other YouTube channels that I have been following. This list isn't exhaustive so if there are other channels, feel free to add them to the comments for the benefit of others.

MinuteEarth: MinuteEarth is the channel that is the most similar to MinutePhysics as it was also created by Henry Reich. This channel has videos that tell us the story of our planet. It is a new channel but it already has some really interesting videos. Here is one of them

1Veritasium: This channel belongs to Derek Muller. He is a wonderful science communicator who has an interesting approach to teaching physics. He usually asks simple physics questions to people on the streets to demonstrate people's misconceptions about the physical world around us and then gives the correct answer with explanation. Busting myths and misconceptions is definitely one of the best ways to learn science. Here is one of my favourite videos from his channel.

Vsauce: This channels was created Michael Stevens which is not strictly a science channel. He, along with his collaborators, makes videos which are basically a collection of facts but it is presented in an entertaining manner. The following is one of my favourite videos from this channel

Vi Hart: This channel belongs to Victoria Hart (Vi Hart). This is a maths channel on which Vi teaches maths using her doodles. She is a mathemusician who also composes songs based on mathematics like

Brady Haran's Channels: Brady is a video journalist who probably has the most impressive list of YouTube channels that deal with science communication. Here are some of his channels that I follow regularly

Periodic videos (Chemistry)
SixtySymbols (Physics)
Numberphile (Maths) - In opinion this is his best channel

For his other channels on food, psychology, computers, check out his website

Hank Green's Channels: Hank Green is a popular vlogger who is one half of the famous VlogBrothers on YouTube. But he has also created a number of sciencey channels.

SciShow - This channel posts videos almost everyday and it gives titbits on the latest news in the world of science. Once in a while Hank hosts a talk show with one of this friends called SciShow Talk Show in which he chats with them about science and there is also a special animal guest in these videos.

CrashCourse - In this channel, Hank teaches biology, ecology, chemistry, history and literature with his brother John. These videos have wonderful animations and they are easy to understand.

BrainScoop - In this channel Hank's friend Emily Graslie talks about the large collection of animal specimen at the Montana Zoological Museum. This might not sound like an interesting topic but give it a try; Emily makes it an awesome experience. She has now moved to Chicago Field Museum and she would continue making her show from there.

SmarterEveryday: This channel belongs to Destin Sandlin. He is a missile engineer who uses his high speed camera to reveal a totally new world that becomes apparent when we slow down the world around us. He studies topics ranging from flight of dragonflies to the physics of helicopters. He has also collaborated with Brady Haran to study chemistry experiments using high speed camera. The following is one of my favourite videos from his channel.

Astronomy Cast and Weekly space hangout: These two video series are very different from the others the list because these two are telecast live. Astronomy cast is a live science webcast in which astronomer Pamela Gay and the publisher of Universe Today, Fraser Cain discuss various topics in physics and astronomy.

Weekly space hangout is usually hosted by Fraser, in which astronomers from all over the world hangout on Google+ and share their telescope feeds. Both amateur and professional astronomers take part in these hangouts and you would be able see a number of astronomical objects, starting from our Moon to the great Andromeda galaxy.

AsapSCIENCE: Another channel which teaches science using doodles. There are videos in this channel from all branches of science. It is similar to MinutePhysics but is unique in its own way.
