A couple of days back a friend sent me the link to the TED talk by Dr. Vijay Kumar of University of Pennsylvania. He is the director of the GRASP (General Robotics Automation Sensing and Perception) lab. His talk is about the small, automated robots that were built in his lab, which swarm, fly in formation, perform coordinated activities like building structures and even survey buildings. The video was uploaded only a few days ago and it has already been viewed half a million times (This is amazing for a science and technology video).
In this talk, Vijay initially talks about the physics behind the design and working of the robots. Then he shows videos of the robots performing various jaw-dropping tasks like flying through obstacles in formation, lifting heavy loads, mapping buildings amongst others. He concludes his talk with a special presentation by the robots in which they play the theme of James Bond using musical instruments. This is the best TED talk I have ever seen and I highly recommend it.
